Lord Nataraja Temple

Thillai Natarajar & Sivagami Amman

Lord Shiva is worshiped in various forms. One is the form of a Cosmic dancer. Also called as 'Koothan', who is the god for bharathanatyam. He blesses us in the Ananda Thandava position along with Sivagami Amman. Natarajar temple is the location for one of the five elements of nature (Ether @ agayam). The other locations are: Earth - Ekambareswar temple in Kanncheepuram, Water - Jambukeshwar Temple in Thiruvanaikkaval, Fire - Arunachaleswarar Temple in Thiruvannamalai. Air - Sri Kalahasti Temple in Andhra Pradesh.

Govindaraja Perumal

Chidambaram Natarajar Temple is one of the few temples where both Shiva and Vishnu are enshrined under the same roof. Govindarajar @ Vishnu blesses in the reclining pose with Sridevi, Boodevi, Karthikeya, Brahma and others.

Thillai Kali Temple

On the account to decide who is superior in Siva and Shakthi, a dance competition is performed in Chidambaram in from of Lord Vishnu and Brahma. To win Lord Shiva performed 'OORTHAVA THANDAVA' which is a pose by raising the leg above the head. This pose cannot be performed by ladies due to modesty. Shakthi, became very angry due to the defeat. She was pacified by Lord Brahma and hence is seen with four faces. She is also famously called as Vadapathra Kali Amman.

Mariamman Temple

Mariamman is the goddess for rain and soil. She also is the goddess who is worshiped for curing chicken pox. As she is the goddess for curing summer diseases, she is mostly worshiped with milk pots, turmeric and neem leaves in summer.

This is the second largest magrove forest in the world (first is spread across West Bengal and Bangladesh). This is a eco friendly picnic spot which helps nature in various ways. Famously known as Kaviri Poompattinam, which was once a capital for Cholas. This served as a port for the Cholas to reach out to various foreign lands. The town was destructed by Tsunami around 1500 years ago. It is 45 kms from Nataraja Residency.
