Thillai Natarajar & Sivagami Amman
Lord Shiva is worshiped in various forms. One is the form of a Cosmic dancer. Also called as 'Koothan', who is the god for bharathanatyam. He blesses us in the Ananda Thandava position along with Sivagami Amman. Natarajar temple is the location for one of the five elements of nature (Ether @ agayam). On the account to decide who is superior in Siva and Shakthi, a dance competition is performed in Chidambaram in from of Lord Vishnu and Brahma. To win Lord Shiva performed 'OORTHAVA THANDAVA' which is a pose by raising the leg above the head. This pose cannot be performed by ladies due to modesty. Shakthi, became very angry due to the defeat. She was pacified by Lord Brahma and hence is seen with four faces. She is also famously called as Vadapathra Kali Amman.
Mariamman is the goddess for rain and soil. She also is the goddess who is worshiped for curing chicken pox. As she is the goddess for curing summer diseases, she is mostly worshiped with milk pots, turmeric and neem leaves in summer.
